Admissions & Financial Support
The MTS program is one of many degree programs offered by the University of Notre Dame Graduate School, which requires all applicants to take the GRE General Test. The GRE includes verbal, analytical writing, and quantitative examination sections. The institutional code for both the GRE and TOEFL exams is 1841.
Applications

In general, applicants to the MTS program are expected to have strong backgrounds in the humanities (preferably including theology or related disciplines) and/or the social sciences. They should have a strong academic record, with a high cumulative grade point average (GPA) and excellent GRE scores.
Applicants must apply to one of the six theological areas that participate in the MTS program. The application deadline is January 15 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The following items are essential components of a successful application:
Must be submitted electronically by the applicant:
• Unofficial transcripts
• Curriculum vitae
• Statement of intent (personal statement)
• Writing sample
• Materials related to the applicant’s history regarding dismissal, probation, or suspension from school, or criminal conviction
May be submitted electronically by the applicant:
• To expedite the review, please upload unofficial copies of test scores. Ultimately, official test scores supplied by the testing institution are required for all applicants.
Must be submitted electronically by the recommenders:
• Letters of recommendation (Recommenders are added by the student; recommenders will upload the letters.)
Financial Support
All students admitted to the MTS will be provided with full-tuition scholarships for the duration of their program. These scholarships include summer school, making it possible for many students to take language courses for two summers. In addition, the MTS program offers a small stipend to all students. The amount of the stipend is not guaranteed, but in recent years it has been $3500-4000 for each academic year.
