Africa Initiative

Educating Africa’s Next Ecclesial and Theological Leaders

As a mark of solidarity with the Roman Catholic Church in Africa, the Theology Department at the University of Notre Dame has established two annual scholarships at the MTS (Master of Theological Studies) level and one scholarship every second or third year at the PhD level. These scholarships will be given to the very brightest candidates who meet stated academic standards and who have the endorsement of their religious superiors or bishops.

The candidates chosen are expected to return to their home countries upon graduation and apply their knowledge to the service of their communities. Preference will be given to those candidates who would teach in African theological institutes, seminaries or religious studies departments or be involved in areas where the expertise they have acquired at Notre Dame will be put to full use in and for the African Churches.
