International scholars explore the meaning of Christian witness in the contemporary world.
Beyond every other form of proclamation, living witness is the most powerful medium of the gospel message. The meaning of witness has always carried special weight in the example of the martyrs, and this volume is inspired by the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador. But as the contributors demonstrate the implications of witness extend in many ways to pedagogy, the role of narrative in theology, spirituality, intercultural dialogue, and politics.

Maria Clara Bingemer is Professor of Theology at the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio De Janeiro. One of the leading women theologians of Latin America, she is the coauthor of Mary: Mother of God, Mother of the Poor. Peter Casarella is Associate Professor of Theology at Notre Dame. He has written and coauthored several books, including A World for All? Global Civil Society in Political Theory and Trinitarian Theology (Eerdmans, 2011)
