Ken Amadi, University of Notre Dame, "Local Rituals and the Church's Evolving Lex Orandi."
Abstract: This chapter revisits the concept of lex orandi understood as the Church's rule of prayer: its definition, scope, and relationship with local rituals. It raises the following questions. Is there a universal Christian lex orandi, or do different churches determine their respective leges orandi (rules of prayer)? Is lex orandi an evolving canon and what are the principles for its development? How do local and emerging rituals, especially in non-Western cultures contribute to and participate in the Church's evolving principle of prayer?
