Placements

The M.Div. program has an excellent placement record, with graduates around the country in a diverse set of ministries. In the past five years, 68 students have graduated from the M.Div. — 28 seminarians/brothers in the Congregation of Holy Cross and 40 lay students.

Among those 40 lay students, 36 found full-time ministry employment before or very soon after graduation — eight in universities (20%), seven in high schools (18%), 11 in nonprofit organizations (28%), and 10 in parishes or diocesan offices (25%). The four who did not enter full-time ministry are in doctoral studies, entered the religious life, or are primary caregivers for their families.

“One of the great things about having ministry placements throughout the M.Div. program is that you can try different types of ministry work while being mentored by professional ministers already at work in the field. For one of my ministry placements, I became an assistant rector for a women’s residence hall at Notre Dame. I would not have chosen to try this type of ministry work if it were not for the M.Div. However, the placement opened my eyes to the beauty of intentionally accompanying students in the context of a Christian community. I loved the work so much that I began working full-time in residential life ministry upon graduation.”
