What should I include in my statement of intent?

The statement of intent should clearly answer why you want to pursue an M.Div. and why the particular program here at Notre Dame. It should indicate how the academic, pastoral, human, and/or spiritual formation offered here will assist you in realizing your ministerial goals.

I have a family. How feasible is doing an M.Div. at Notre Dame?

The M.Div. program has a number of married students, some with young children. While some flexibility is required on the part of the family, students with families have been able to thrive in our program and feel welcome. The inclusion of families in the program enriches the formation experiences of all students. In many ways, Notre Dame is an ideal place for parents to pursue an M.Div. degree.

Where do graduate students live?

With a wide assortment of affordable housing options available in the area, M.Div. students readily find the type of housing that meets their personal needs on and off campus. The Office of Student Housing has on-campus housing for students who are single or have families.

When can I apply to the program?

The M.Div. program has one admissions cycle each year with all new students starting as a cohort in the fall. Applications are always due by Jan. 2.

What should I include in the autobiographical statement?

The autobiographical statement must be written according to the form specified by the M.Div. admissions committee. A link to the required structure of the statement is provided on the M.Div. admissions page.

Can I complete the M.Div. online?

No, our M.Div. program is one of the most rigorous lay formation programs in the country, and thus can only be completed as a three-year, full-time, in-residence program. For those looking for a more flexible, largely online program, our MA program has a hybrid online track.
