The Marten Program
"Let us renew our confidence in preaching, based on the conviction that it is God who seeks to reach out to others through the preacher, and that he displays his power through human words."—Pope Francis, Evangelli Gaudium, 136.
Welcome to the John S. Marten Program in Homiletics and Liturgics, housed within the Department of Theology at the University of Notre Dame.
Begun in 1983, the mission of the Marten Program is to support and enhance Roman Catholic preaching within liturgical celebration.
To that end, the Marten Program serves in two ways: within the University of Notre and as an outreach of the university to the broader Church. In service to Notre Dame, we provide preaching courses and lectures for seminarians and lay students within the Master of Divinity Program. In service to the broader Church, we sponsor a biennial preaching conference and workshops as well as the newly launched Preaching Academy.

May the Word of God enlighten and nourish us all!
