Biography

Katherine Wu is a Ph.D. candidate in systematic theology. After graduating from Mount St. Mary's University with a degree in biology, she came to Notre Dame for graduate work. Her dissertation retrieves the sacramental theology of the medieval Hugh of St. Victor to develop a framework for Catholic sacramental spirituality. It proposes that Hugh's sacramental understanding of creation, his integration of natural history into salvation history, and his pedagogical approach to the Christian sacraments offer a way to incorporate the sacramentality of creation into ecclesial life while maintaining the Church as the fundamental sacrament. She is also interested in creation, providence, the history of science and theology, and the theology of John Henry Newman.
