On Wednesday October 28 from 5:00-6:30 pm in Decio 235, Mara Benjamin, professor of Jewish Studies at Mount Holyoke College will give a talk on "Human Exceptionalism and Beyond: Climate Crisis As Challenge to Jewish Theology."
Many contemporary religious communities have increasingly prioritized climate action as a calling and a responsibility. Yet the classical teachings of Western traditions re-inscribe the human exceptionalism that grounds climate catastrophe. This lecture explores different ways classical Jewish sources imagine human beings in the created world and examines how ecological crisis poses new questions to it.
