Theology Undergraduate Students Receive Awards

The Theology Department is pleased to announce the winners of a number of both internal and external awards given to undergraduate majors and minors in Theology:
 

Theology Senior Award Winners:

The Gertrude Austin Marti Award is given to graduating seniors who have successfully combined extraordinary service to Church and community with academic excellence. This year it goes to Marissa Browne and Madeleine Thompson, with our congratulations.

The Reverend Joseph H. Cavanaugh, CSC, Award is given to the senior who has evidenced high qualities of personal character and academic excellence in theological studies This year goes to Sydney Schneider, with our congratulations.

The Spirit Award is given for exceptional devotion and service to Theology as a field of study. This year it goes to Jarek Jankowski, with our congratulations.
 

Yarrow Award in Peace Studies 

Madeleine Thompson- majoring in theology and peace studies was awarded the 2019 Yarrow Award in Peace Studies by the Kroc Institute. Selected students are peace studies undergraduates from the graduating cohort who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to peace and justice.
 

The Kellogg Institute for International Studies’Latin American North American Church Concerns (LANACC) Rev. Robert S. Pelton, CSC, Annual Essay Contest Winners:

Marissa Griffith- Theology major was awarded 1st place in the undergraduate category for the Fr. Pelton Essay contest for her paper St. Oscar Romero and Evangelization

Francesca Patti- Theology minor was a runner-up in the undergraduate category for the Fr. Pelton Essay contest for her paper Wellbeing of Mexico City Pepenadores: Evaluating the Role of the Catholic Church and Faith

Megan Wilson- Theology major was a runner-up in the undergraduate category for the Fr. Pelton Essay contest for her paper La Virgen de Suyapa: Reina, Patrona y Símbolo de Esperanza de Honduras

John M. Hogue- Theology major ‘18 was awarded 1st place in the Alumni Category for the Fr. Pelton Essay contest for his paper El Compromiso Político de la Iglesia Chilena
