Virtual Research Seminar: "What's New in the New Encyclical 'Fratelli Tutti'?"
About the event
On October 4, 2020, Pope Francis published a new social encyclical, "Fratelli Tutti," on the way we should live together on our planet. The encyclical challenges our economic and political systems and calls for a new culture of solidarity.
In this informal virtual seminar at the Center for Social Concerns, we will explore aspects of the text which are part of our ever-developing Catholic social tradition. Dan Graff, Grace Munene, Margie Pfeil, and Clemens Sedmak will offer brief reflections and then open the floor for comments and thoughts. We will address questions like the following: What is "new" about the new encyclical? How does the text talk about the pandemic? What are the urgent challenges identified by Pope Francis? What response does he offer? What do his exhortations mean for the University of Notre Dame, for our teaching and learning, and for the Center for Social Concerns?
