Lecture: "New Church and A New Society: Human Development and Democratization in the Ministry of Rutilio Grande, S.J. and the Church of El Salvador

Students, faculty, and community members are invited to a luncheon seminar on the ministry of Rutilio Grande, S.J., presented by Professor Thomas Kelly.

Thomas M. Kelly a is professor of systematic theology at Creighton University and immersion coordinator for the Ignatian Colleagues Program, a national program of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. Kelly has taught travel courses throughout Latin America on the past and present ministry of the Catholic Church, taking students to the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Bolivia, and Peru over the past thirteen years. He has published nationally and internationally on philosophical hermeneutics, liberation theology, Catholic social thought, marriage and family, and the Church of Latin America. Two of his most recent books include When the Gospel Grows Feet: Rutilio Grande, SJ and the Church of El Salvador, An Ecclesiology in Context (Liturgical Press, 2013) and Rutilio Grande, SJ: Homilies and Articles (Liturgical Press, 2015). Kelly holds a BA from the University of Notre Dame and a PhD from Boston College.

Professor Kelly's visit coincides with the book launch for Archbishop Romero and Spiritual Leadership in the Modern World, ed. by Rev. Robert Pelton, to which Kelly is a contributor. Kelly and Pelton will join other contributors at a panel discussion of the book hosted by LANACC on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 4:00pm in the Hesburg Center Auditorium.
