Conference: Building a Plural Society: Interreligious Relations in Indonesia

After the collapse of the authoritarian regime in 1998, Indonesia faced serious challenges in promoting a culture of peaceful coexistence among diverse religious communities. Despite the tendency toward political moderation, violent disputes over religious minorities and religious policies have increased significantly since Indonesian’s democratic opening. This conference will address major issues in interreligious relations in contemporary Indonesia, including the impact of this year’s elections (parliamentary election in April and presidential election in July) on the future of inter and intra-religious relations.
