Inside the Grotto at the University of Notre Dame, hundreds of flickering votive candles line metal racks, illuminating the rocky enclosure. Through the grotto's large opening, a crowd gathers in the evening light, some holding their own candles.

Joint Programs

The Department of Theology has developed joint doctoral programs with two areas of shared interest: the Peace Studies program in the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, and the History of the Philosophy of Science (HPS) program in the John J. Reilly Center for Science, Technology, and Values.

For both joint programs, Theology is the secondary department, meaning that applications are made through either Peace Studies or History of the Philosophy of Science.
