Nostra Aetate, or the Declaration on the Relation of the Church with Non-Christian Religions, was promulgated on Oct. 28, 1965, within the framework of the Second Vatican Council, and set the framework for a sea change in the relationship between the Catholic Church and the Jewish people. An international conference at Notre Dame Jerusalem and Hebrew University will mark the 60th anniversary of this momentous occasion by clarifying the historical background and reception of the document in Catholic and Jewish circles and beyond, and taking stock of the present and future of theological questions bearing on the relationship between the Jewish people and the Church.
