Undergraduate Program
Undergraduates Studying Theology
- 220 majors
- 121 minors
- 25 majors in the joint Philosophy-Theology major
The Department of Theology offers Notre Dame undergraduates:
A basic grounding in the “Foundations of Theology,” part of the University’s two-course theology requirement, exploring life’s most basic questions in an inherently interdisciplinary way.
An experience of reflection on the historic faith of Catholic Christianity, deepening a Catholic student’s understanding of Scripture, doctrine, tradition, and the life of today’s Church.
An ideal liberal arts major that contributes to a balanced personal preparation for life—a preparation attractive to graduate schools and employers alike because of insights into cultures, their underlying values, and the most profound questions of human existence.
A supplementary major or a minor that complements and extends a student’s commitment to learning about science, engineering, business, architecture, or other disciplines.
A major or a minor that prepares one well to teach religion in Catholic high schools around the country.
An honors program for qualified students who wish to work closely with a faculty mentor in exploration of theological concepts.
