The author of God's Grace and Human Action: 'Merit' in the Theology of Thomas Aquinas (1996) and The Westminster Handbook to Thomas Aquinas (2005), and co-editor of Christ Among the Medieval Dominicans (1998) and The Theology of Thomas Aquinas (2005), Wawrykow specializes in 13th-century scholastic theology. His current projects include a volume of translations in high medieval Christology (to be published by Catholic University of America Press); and, a book-length study of the Christology of Aquinas that focuses on Thomas's pedagogical and literary strategies in teaching Christ.

Recent honors include an Association of Theological Schools research grant; designation by the University's Graduate School as one of thirteen Master Mentors of doctoral students; and, reception in 2002 of a Kaneb Teaching Award for excellence in undergraduate teaching. From 1999 to Spring 2002, Wawrykow served his Department as Director of Undergraduate Studies. From June 2002 to July 2004, he was the Department's Director of Graduate Studies.
