Wondrous Fear and Holy Awe

Meeting of the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality
University of Notre Dame, June 29-July 2, 2013

The Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality (SSCS) will hold an interdisciplinary conference at the University of Notre Dame, June 29-July 2, 2013.  The theme of the conference, Wondrous Fear and Holy Awe, reflects on the Fear of the Lord as a multi-faceted gift of the Spirit inclusive of reverent awe, a dynamic psychological state, a powerful virtue for Christian living, and an inspiration for artistic expression and evangelization.  Papers given at the conference will explore holy fear and awe as they have been experienced by persons and communities in different Christian traditions from the dawn of the Christian era until today.  In addition to a rich offering of scholarly papers and discussions, the retreat-like program will include times for shared morning and evening prayer, singing, instrumental music and meals.
